Workshop: Disaster Relief Reimagined Part II A Civil Protection Approach for Canada
Disaster Relief Reimagined Part II:
A Civil Protection Approach for Canada
Given the urgency for systematic change, we hope that you can make time in your busy calendar to join us in two weeks for a critical, high-level workshop designed to bring together results-oriented strategic thinkers to conceptualize a solution for the critical shortfalls of the Canadian disaster response system.
With disaster impacts and global conflicts on the rise, the over-reliance on the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) for disaster response is unsustainable. The urgency for radical systematic change has never been greater.
📅 Date: Tuesday & Wednesday October 14th/15th 2025
🕒 Time: 8am -5pm
📍 Location: Manoir de la Forêt, 32 chemin River, Cantley, Quebec
This collaborative workshop is co-hosted by the National Center for Critical Infrastructure Protection, Security, and Resilience (CIPSER) and Civil Protection Youth Canada (CPYC), and made possible by the Department of National Defence: Mobilizing Insights in Defence and Security (MINDS).
What to Expect:
Receive an analysis of the need, feasibility and benefits of a new citizen-based approach to fulfill the government’s mandate to protect its citizens, while freeing the CAF to focus on their defence mandate.
Follow a presentation by experts of Germany’s Federal Agency for Technical Relief (Technisches Hilfswerk, THW) and explore how its structure can be used as a comprehensive model for Canada to create a currently missing layer of safety, security and resilience to all hazards.
Recognize why a radical change of the response system is no longer optional and understand the urgency for rapid action.
Based on the identified key pillars for success, dive into innovation territory, to jointly explore and develop a realistic concept for such a new approach - as well as concrete steps for implementation.
