Families Explore Disaster Resilience and Readiness at Workshop
On April 27, 2025, CPYC hosted a free, hands-on Resilience & Readiness Workshop at Centre Wakefield La Pêche. The workshop brought together participants of all ages to deepen their understanding of disaster resilience and preparedness.
What Happened
Held in honour of Earth Day, this interactive workshop gave attendees the chance to explore disaster preparedness through guided activities, and family-friendly challenges. Attendees explored practical ways to build resilience and improve disaster readiness, and took home a family activity designed to ensure their emergency kits and plans are up to date and tailored to their unique needs.
Reflections from a Resilience Advocate
“My academic background is in urban development and resilience. I’m a vocal proponent of preparing Canadian neighbourhoods for climate change. On Earth Day 2025 I took part in Eva and Bettina’s workshop on community disaster prep at the Wakefield QC community centre. Although I’m aware of issues around responding to disasters I found the workshop exercises to be enlightening and somewhat unsettling. I’m not as prepared as I thought I was. Problem-solving with other people – some of whom I know and some I don’t – was messier than I expected. I presume this was one of the intended lessons from the workshop. It was a worthwhile reality check for me. I wish these two women could do more of these workshops.”
